2011-2012 Award Recipients.

The Graduate Student Open Access Award, sponsored by the Graduate Students' Association (GSA), the Library and the Office of the Vice President (Research & International) (OVPRI), was established to support Carleton University graduate students in publishing research in open access journals

The Award encourages Carleton graduate students to make their works more widely available on the internet and thereby increase the visibility and impact of their research in advancing knowledge and improving the global community.

How much is the Award?

Up to five monetary awards of $1000.00 will be distributed. Awards will only be granted when there is a paper of sufficient quality.
 

Who is eligible?

Any GSA member who has a paper published or accepted (pending minor revisions) in an open access journal can apply. A list of open access journals can be found in the Directory of Open Access Journals.
 

What is eligible?

Articles published or accepted for publication after January 1, 2010 are eligible for consideration.  "Accepted for publication" means after peer-review process.
 

Who decides how the Award will be distributed?

The Award is jointly administered by the Library, Graduate Student Association, and OVPRI through the Scholarly Communications Committee.
 

Will the Award be made public?

Yes, a list of authors and articles, as well as a brief author bio will be published on the Library's Open Access website.
 

Will the Award be made available permanently?

This is a pilot project which will be evaluated on a yearly basis. Continuation of this initiative depends on the outcome of the pilot and the availability of sustainable base funding.
