We maintain a video collection of DVDs and VHS videotapes that support teaching and research at Carleton. Most DVD and VHS collections are located at Circulation Desk and some VHS tapes are housed in the Storage Facility.
Find videos in our collection using a keyword search, limiting the Material Type to "Video".
You may borrow videos for viewing at home or in the library. You may also book videos for classroom viewing. To book a video, click on the "Book this Title" button in the catalogue, or email the Circulation Desk.
If you would like to suggest a video for our collection, please use the Purchase Suggestion form.
Search Watmedia to locate videos at other Ontario universities. Watmedia is an extensive database of approximately 50,000 film and video titles. If you wish to borrow a video listed in Watmedia please fill out our Interfilm Video Request form - do not submit requests directly to Watmedia.
Under Canadian copyright law all videos, films, and DVDs shown in the classroom must have non-theatrical Public Performance Rights. Most videos purchased by Carleton University include public performance rights (PPR) and therefore may be used in the classroom.
Videos borrowed from public libraries, video stores, or those privately owned are for home use only and may not be used in the classroom unless they are covered by one of two feature film licenses Carleton holds. To determine if a film is covered by one of the licenses, search the lists provided by our two distributors (search by title or by studio/producer):
Videos requested through Watmedia (see above) are licensed for classroom viewing.
If you have any questions regarding public performance rights, please contact Ingrid Draayer.
